I'm an X-smoker that thinks. Way way way to maney people died for our freedome! Being free is having the freedome to make your own choices. If the owners of establishments want to allow smoking in there place. that should be there choice. Not some government buracrat or mad mom from Cal. that thinks that they should be able to tell everyone how to live their life. A frend said to me that he feels like he is living in USSR, I sail no,,,, if you where in the USSR, you could have a smoke with your beer!!! I think that they should outlaw bikes on the streets (Designed for and funded by Auto's) of Boulder.. Don't start taking away peoples freedome! You did'ent die for it!

We're getting way out of line in this country with taking away personal rights. We're spending billions of dollars on other countries and not taking care of our people here at home, yet we keep taking away more and more personal freedom. People who don't like smoking should not frequent places that allow it - heaven knows there are many more options of establishments for them to frequent, while we have very few options left. Leave the small business owners alone - they're just trying to make a living like the rest of us, and I personally appreciate the VERY FEW hookah, cigar, etc. bars where I can enjoy myself without some self-rightous idiot trying to take away even more of my personal options. I don't go to places where I don't like the type of music, or type of crowd there, or outrageous pricing, etc., so leave us alone and go to your "proper" place. We're becoming way too much of a police state as it is.

At this time this is what people are worried about? This is what elected government officials are working on? Aren’t we in a resection and have WAY to many people out of work? Anyone who thinks this should be on the top 1000 things a person should be working on right now needs to sit down a listen to NPR or 630am for a week to educate themselves on what’s really going on. Also is this a time to start closing down small business (hookah bars, cigar bar, and smoke shops). Things like this are prime examples of wasteful government spend and time. Can we have a meeting Monday the 9th about something that matters?

I wish to thank the Lakewood City Council for their objectivity in a situation which can best be described as 'Political Correctness' run amuck. The State Legislature has setteled the issue of tobacco use and moreover business and patrons alike have complied. I see no point in Lakewood penalizing small independent business further for no apparent reason but to placate some chronically unhappy 'busy bodies' who, most likley, will never be satisfied until [they] have interdicted all personal rights that [they] don't like! Even if [they] prevail in their quest to destroy small business and personal rights, per this issue, I seriously doubt that they will stop there and sooner or later their crusade will adversely impact other groups! There are a plethora of establishments that non smokers can patronize. Since I was in the 1st grade and told about the "land of the free" I've seen these 'freedoms' slip away, incrementally, enough is enough! I pray that Lakewood City Council continues to maintain a 'common sense' and objective posture in deliberating this matter and that the principles of freedom, both personal and market, prevail.

I have been a smoker for over 30 years. I know that smoking is bad for you, but there are worse thing out there that our goverment should be spending their money on. We need to get tougher on drugs, how many of our young kids have to die before we take this serious!!! How about booze? How many drunk driving death do we have to go through every year? Why don't we go back to banning booze like they did years ago?

First of all, very "intelligent comment" from Alex. Secondly, as a past smoker (39 years), I have nothing at all against folks who want to "kill" themselves. I FINALLY woke up and quit (cold turkey). What I realized was that I WANT to live for my kids, and grandkids, so instead of smoking I took on another habit - Running and hiking! Thank God that I finally saw the light. Sorry for preaching, but that's my story and I'm sticking to it. As far as banning smoking from Restaurants - YES; outdoors - I don't care as long as it's not being blown in my face; away from entrances - YEP, as far away as possible. I can't believe how much that smoking absolutely STINKS, wow I didn't even realize how much it stinks until I quit, but smokers don't realize it because they live in that smell day in and day out. Oh well, it's each and everyone's right whether they want to smoke or don't want to, it's not ours, so I say as long as it's not interfering in my life, my kids' life, or my food while I'm trying to eat, I'm absolutely fine. I just wish that people would see the light, like I did, and give this horrible habit up. I know it's hard, but well worth it. Sorry to preach. Good luck to all.

We should follow the state guidelines. We do not need to have every burb with their own rules. I'm not a smoker and I really dislike it, but as long as I am able to eat at a restaurant without smoke in my face, I'm good. Secondhand smoke is really not as dangerous as some would like you to believe...it is just stinky! Also, if there is a place that is particuarly smokey, we don't patronize it. You vote with your dollar.

I am not a smoker but I think that taking away personal liberties ie: smoking outdoors and banning smoke businesses is waaaayyy out of line. The gov't has much more serious problems to deal with and should butt out ;) of peoples personal lives. I have never been bothered by a smoker outdoors in parks or outside of a business or on an outdoor patio. I would challenge anyone to come up w/a study that seriously considered the risk of outside second hand smoke, and had a large enough sample size to be taken seriously. Its nice that a public servant asked for an opinion but this is such a trivial issue.

It is refreshing to find a public official interested in what the people in your area think about an issue and that you not just vote your own personal opinion; but try to find out what people want. Thank you.

I would like to see smoking banned at sports events for children. I was at several soccer and baseball games last summer with parents smoking. These are events that are sponsored by the City of Lakewood, so games are played in Lakewood City sporting event parks.

If people want to smoke, it is their business. But I don't like it interferring in my life with having to breath their smoke. Smokers need to be considerate.
